Brief Descriptionpentagastrin is a synthetic polypeptide that has effects like gastrin when given parenterally, which can cause the secretion and synthesis of salivary proteins.
-
DescriptionPentagastrin is a synthetic polypeptide that has effects like gastrin when given parenterally. It stimulates the secretion of gastric acid, pepsin, and intrinsic factor, and has been used as a diagnostic aid as the pentagastrin-stimulated calcitonin test. Pentagastrin binds to the cholecystokinin-B receptor, which is expressed widely in the brain. Activation of these receptors activates the phospholipase C second messenger system.(In Vitro):Pentagastrin (ICI-50123) (0.1-100 μM; GH3-cells) increases intracellular Ca2+ in a dose-dependent manner with a maximal increase of 2.77-fold.Pentagastrin (ICI-50123) (0.1-100 μM; GH3-cells) bounds dose dependently to GH3 cells.(In Vivo):Pentagastrin (ICI-50123) (80 μg/kg/h; i.v.; male Sprague-Dawley rats) protects rat gastric mucosa from acidified aspirin injury.

In VivoPentagastrin (ICI-50123) (80 μg/kg/h; i.v.; male Sprague-Dawley rats) protects rat gastric mucosa from acidified aspirin injury. Animal Model:Male Sprague-Dawley rats (approximately 200 g) Dosage:80 μg/kg/h Administration:Intravenous injection Result:Protected rat gastric mucosa from acidified aspirin injury. Induced a hyperaemic response to luminal acid challenge, increased mucus gel thickness, and elevated pHi during acid challenge.
