Biological Information

  • Product Name
    Optovin
  • Note
Research use only, not for human use.
  • Brief Description
Optovin is a TRPA1 activator, which is reversibly photoactivated.
  • Description
Optovin is a photoactive TRPA1 activator. Optovin activates human TRPA1 via structure-dependent photochemical reactions with redox-sensitive cysteine residues. In animals with severed spinal cords, optovin treatment enables control of motor activity in the paralyzed extremities by localized illumination. These studies identify a light-based strategy for controlling endogenous TRPA1 receptors in vivo, with potential clinical and research applications in nontransgenic animals, including humans.
  • In Vitro
Optovin (1-10 μM) increases Zebrafish embryos motor activity greater than 40 standard deviations above the control mean at the photic stimuli, with an EC50 of 2 μM.Optovin (100 μM; 120 s) strongly activates 33% (35/105) of dorsal root ganglia (DRG) neurons.Optovin (10 μM; 1 min) activates HEK293T cells transfected with hTrpA1.
  • In Vivo
Optovin (1-10 μM) causes light-dependent motor excitation in vivo.Optovin (15 mM (20 μL); on the ear) elicits nociceptive behaviors in adult mice.Optovin (10 μM; 96 h) do not affect the appearance, touch response, heart rate, fin movements, morphology or percentage survival of larvae and adult zebrafish.
