Biological Information

  • Product Name
    Adrenochrome
  • Note
Research use only, not for human use.
  • Brief Description
Adrenochrome (Adraxone) is a cytotoxic molecule that can be used to kill bacteria. Adrenochrome is an oxidized product of Epinephrine.
  • Description
Adrenochrome (Adraxone) is an oxidation product of Epinephrine. Adrenochrome is a potent coronary constricting agent in the rat heart. Adrenochrome can be used for neurological disorder research.
  • In Vitro
Adrenochrome decreases microsomal calcium binding, calcium uptake and Ca2+-stimulated Mg2+-dependent ATPase activities. The inhibitory effect of Adrenochrome on microsomal calcium uptake activity of the isolated membrane is independent of pH (6.0-8.0), calcium concentrations (10-200 μM), protein concentration (0.02-0.10 mg/mL), temperature (25-37 degrees C) and incubation time (2-30 min).
  • In Vivo
In isolated rat hearts, concentrations of Adrenochrome from 1 to 1000 ng/mL increases coronary pressure in a dose- and time-dependent manner. Furthermore, the degree of constriction by Adrenochrome is dependent on the CaCl2 concentration in the perfusion medium.
