DescriptionDirithromycin is a macrolide glycopeptide antibiotic by binding to the 50S subunit of the 70S bacterial ribosome to inhibit the translocation of peptides.(In Vitro):Dirithromycin possesses an in vitro spectrum of antimicrobial activity which is similar to that of Erythromycin.Dirithromycin exhibits excellent in vitro activity against several strains of Legionella, with MICs of ~1.0 and <0.25 μg/mL at pH=7.1 and 7.4, respectively.Dirithromycin demonstrates potent activity against several strains of Helicobacter pytori, with MICs of <0.5 μg/mL.(In Vivo):Dirithromycin (s.c. for 2 times) is effective against experimental infections caused by S. aureus, S. pyogenes, and S. pneumoniae in mice, with ED50s of 1.0, 0.6, and <0.6 mg/kg.Dirithromycin (p.o. for 2 times) is effective against experimental infections caused by S. aureus, S. pyogenes, and S. pneumoniae in mice, with ED50s of 27, 34, and 23 mg/kg.
